Designing a Vacation Home in Florida
The property is located one block from the Gulf of Mexico, bordering the prestigious Naples neighborhoods of Aqualane Shores and Port Royal. The area was developed in the late 1940s and early 1950s on land that used to be mangrove swamps. Today it is known for its mid-century homes as well as contemporary luxury residences.
The owners of one of these residences are a married couple who divide their time between sunny Florida and Wisconsin. They spend about half the year in Naples—sometimes on their own, sometimes together with their adult children and grandchildren.
The property had originally been finished by a designer appointed by the developer. However, after purchasing the house, the owners asked a friend—designer Jeffrey Fisher—to create the interior arrangement, including furniture, wallpapers, and decorative lighting.
A Relaxed, Vacation-Inspired Atmosphere
The color palette, patterns, and finishes emphasize the home’s restful, perpetual-vacation atmosphere. Because the owners love the color blue, the designer incorporated it throughout the interiors in accessories and textiles.
The otherwise calm color scheme is enriched with more expressive elements and patterned wallpapers, adding depth and personality to the spaces.
Art and Decorative Lighting
Art also plays an important role in the interiors. Among the pieces are works by American artist Mark Mulhern, whose paintings are particularly appreciated by the homeowners.
Alongside the artworks and carefully selected furniture, decorative lighting fixtures are another highlight of the interiors. Notable examples include a silk lampshade in the living room, a star-shaped lamp in the hallway, and a chandelier in the bathroom that resembles cascading plant vines.
